Independent Gubernatorial Candidate Christian Komor to Coloradans: "Turn the News Back On. Your House Is on Fire."

Candidate urges voters to listen to short-form audio news podcasts as an antidote to climate denial and doom-scrolling

DENVER, CO — Christian Komor, the Independent write-in candidate for Colorado Governor in 2026, is calling on Coloradans who have tuned out the news to tune back in — but in a specific, healthier way: through short-form audio news podcasts like Hourly News, which aggregates five-minute updates from the BBC, CBC, NPR, RNZ, and other trusted international broadcasters.

"Many people I talked to over the past year have been tuning out the news to protect themselves." Dr. Komor said. "They tell me life is just too difficult and stressful right now and I would pat them on the back and praise their strong self-care instincts."

But, as climate change becomes more intense and we move closer to losing our ability to fix or even mitigate climate disruption, Komor is rethinking that stance. 

"In 15 minutes of audio news from a podcast like Hourly News, one can get a sense for how extreme the damages from climate change are becoming. For example, just this morning I learned the Imperial College in London has calculated a 42% climate change attribution ratio to the 20,000-30,000 total heat deaths Europe-wide through late July this year. This means climate change killed 8,000-13,000 people in Western Europe in June alone. I also wouldn't know that, in a preview of what is to come for the American Southwest, Puerto Rico has begun rationing water due to drought—48 hours on, 48 hours off. 

If Americans had never heard about the attack on Pearl Harbor we would never have seen the danger, mobilized and won World War II. Hiding from the less-tangible truth of climate change allows us to push the reality to the back of our minds - instead of front and center where it needs to be." Komor said.

Climate change is by far the most serious threat we are all facing — and the one causing us the most pain in our insurance rates, food prices, healthcare, and even mental health - though we may not see it easily.

"Doom-scrolling and gorging on video news is not necessary. Just listen to the relatively unvarnished facts coming from around the world through a 15-minute podcast from BBC, CBC, RNZ, or NPR — and let the reality sink in. You will find the world has whole cities engulfed in by wildfire, or flooded out of existence, ocean currents grinding to a halt, coral reefs bleached, suicide rates rising, thousands buried under earthquake rubble, mountains bare of snow, species going extinct, crops failing, diseases spreading - and yes, dengue fever is moving up quietly through Tennesee toward Washington, D.C."

"Listen — and then get outraged", says Dr. Komor. "All the death and suffering doesn't have to be.
